Pitt County Sheriff's Office

The sheriff's office provides law enforcement and other services for unincorporated areas of Pitt County and several small municipalities. Deputies also serve civil and criminal court summons. The sheriff is elected to office every four years. The next election is in 2006. There are 98 sworn deputies with the office, not including detention center and support staff.

  • Pitt-Greenville CrimeStoppers, 758-7777. CrimeStoppers operates a telephone hotline for callers to leave tips about crime activity without leaving their name. The organization also pays rewards up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest in a case or the recovery of illegal drugs or stolen property.
  • Community Watch, Tonya Leggett, 902-2727. The Sheriff's Office aids residents who wish to establish community watch groups in county neighborhoods. The groups are run by residents, with the assistance of crime-prevention deputies.
